Pre-departure

As I eagerly await the start of my study abroad in Chile, I have begun reading one of the books my professor has assigned to our group. The title of my blog stems from Isabel Allende's description of Santiago in her book, "My Invented Country." She describes Santiago as a demented octopus with eager tentacles and a pretty city that sits "under a dark sombrero of pollution that in wintertime kills infants in their cradles, old people in nursing homes, and birds in the air." Awesome.

I leave in a day and a half. Surprisingly, I am prematurely packed. For the most part. Tomorrow is time for the last minute errands where I run around remembering all of the things I should have thought about weeks ago. One of them being the Spanish language.

I'll write back again after I finish lugging my 100 lbs of luggage through the airports and settle into Santiago in my suped up hotel accomodations. Yes, HOTEL accomodations- not hoStel! That extra S in is the difference between privacy, a closet, and a clean bathroom with soap. I'm so excited!

Adios amigos. Hablare con usted luego!
